Wood Materials
To create the best combination of value and craftsmanship, we use a mixture of solid wood and engineered wood panels covered by solid wood veneer. We consider aesthetics and durability for every component within a piece of wood furniture.
Solid Wood
Solid wood has varied colors, grains and other natural markings, and changes color as it ages, making each board uniquely beautiful. All of our solid wood meets our rigorous sustainable wood sourcing policy.Engineered Wood
Created by adhering wood fibers using heat and pressure, our engineered wood panels (MDF, particle board, plywood) offer high resistance to expansion and contraction with changing temperature and humidity, making them the perfect foundation for paint or beautiful solid wood veneer.

Responsibly Made Woods
We consider a wood responsibly made if it has one or more of these qualities:
Sustainable Materials
Sustainably sourced wood: meets our sustainable wood sourcing policy, which prioritizes wood from responsibly managed North American forests and certified sources.
Reclaimed wood: wood reclaimed from fallen trees that also meets our sustainable wood sourcing policy.
Cleaner Chemistry
Water-based finish: uses a finish that emits fewer VOCs for better indoor air quality.
Wood Finishes
We use different finishes to bring out the best of our woods.
Lacquer
Translucent to highlight the material’s beauty, our lacquer seals and helps protect surfaces.
Oil and Wax
The oil penetrates the wood to preserve moisture, while the wax offers a light layer of protection.
Water-based Acrylic
Translucent to highlight the material’s beauty, our water-based acrylic finish seals and helps protect surfaces. Water-based finishes typically emit fewer VOCs when they are applied.
Wood Care
We recommend Room & Board Wood Cleaner. This biodegradable, unscented cleaner removes dust, dirt, grease, stains and food with a nontoxic formula.
